There are many ways to get involved! You can volunteer at one of our adoption locations for one (or more) four hour shifts per month. Volunteers screen potential adopters to ensure that the animal they chose will make a good match with the new family. Different breeds of dogs have different exercise requirements and different temperaments, and we want to make sure adopters make a choice that is best for them and for the animal. Cats also have different temperaments, and a Siamese is not for everyone! Even if you feel that you do not know enough about animals to be advising potential adopters, there's still plenty of work that needs to be done on adoption days: hold and walk the dogs, set up and clean cages, water and feed the animals. You can foster an adoptable dog or cat in your home until the animal is adopted by the new family. Sometimes just a few extra days can mean the difference between life and death for a dog or a cat. We're often asked to rescue gentle, well-mannered, healthy dogs and cats from animal control shelters and emergency situations. A foster pet may stay at your home for as short a time as two or three days. Other times, it takes a couple of weeks or a month before he or she finds a permanent home. Fostering an animal, whether for a day or a week, is an incredibly rewarding experience. Do you have other talents you can share with us? We always need help setting up for fundraising events, transporting animals from animal control shelters to foster homes and vets, helping foster homes get their animals to adoption days. If you can spare a few hours a month, and you want to do something to benefit dogs and cats right here in Utah, give us a call! Call 801-486-6210 or complete this form. All volunteers are required to complete an application and attend a volunteer orientation. Orientations are held at our Bountiful adoptions center, usually the second Saturday of every month, noon-1:30 pm. If you're short on time, but want to contribute financially, we can always use donations of cash or items like dog collars and leashes, cat beds, etc. Call our Bountiful adoption center (801-299-8508) to find out what items currently top our list of "most wanted". Here's what your cash donation can do: A gift of any amount will help vaccinate, advertise and place an animal in a new home. $25 or more to our Second Chance Fund will sponsor the rescue and/or neutering of an animal we take from an animal-control shelter where he or she was scheduled for immediate euthanasia. $35 will sponsor one of our foster animals for one month, giving him or her valuable time to find a new, loving home. $50 will spay and vaccinate a cat, in turn preventing countless litters that will never have to suffer or be euthanized just because there isn't a home. $75 will spay and vaccinate a dog, helping to ensure his or her good health and disposition. $250 will enable us to take our humane education lessons to 2,000 school children in Utah. Wasatch Humane has saved or improved the lives of thousands of individual animals over the years. But our work is far from done. Please make a contribution today and help give more animals a second chance. Do you like to see your money at work? Wasatch Humane invites you to come to our adoption locations and see for yourself what your donations can do for the animals we help.
